1. What is Spravato?
Spravato is a brand-name prescription medication that’s prescribed for treatment-resistant depression (TRD). TRD is depression that hasn’t improved after treatment with two or more antidepressants.
2. Is Spravato a controlled substance?
Yes, Spravato is a controlled substance. It’s classified by the FDA as a schedule three (III) drug. This means that Spravato is accepted for medical use, but has a high risk of dependence. Spravato has the potential to be misused.
3. What is Treatment- Resistant Depression (TRD)?
TRD is a type of depression that hasn’t improved after you’ve tried at least two different antidepressant medications. Your doctor will determine if you have TRD based on your use of other antidepressants.
4. What is the procedure to use Spravato?
Spravato is administered in-office only. Patients will utilize the nasal spray under supervision. Patients are able to stay in our Spravato room for up to two hours to ensure their comfort and safety. Compassionate Psychiatric Services offers reclining, massage chairs to ensure the experience is as comfortable as possible. We follow Covid-19 CDC guidelines for social distancing and cleaning procedures to ensure the safety of our patients and staff.

6. How Spravato works?
SPRAVATO® targets the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor and is believed to work differently than currently available oral antidepressants. The exact way that SPRAVATO® works are unknown. SPRAVATO® is taken with an oral antidepressant.
7. What should I expect (SPRAVATO)?
You should not expect the treatment on your first visit. You will be able to discuss the REMS program, insurance matters, scheduling and treatment day preparation. You’ll need to plan for rides to and from the certified SPRAVATO® treatment center as you will not be able to drive, operate machinery or do anything where you need to be completely alert until the day after a treatment session, following a restful sleep. You may want to bring a book, a relaxing playlist or another form of entertainment for the session because your healthcare provider will monitor you for at least two hours after treatment.
