Objective Testing to Support Psychiatric Care
At Compassionate Psychiatric Services, psychiatric testing and diagnostic services are used to support and enhance clinical decision making. These tools provide objective data that can help clarify diagnoses, guide treatment selection, and inform next steps when additional information is needed.
Psychiatric testing does not replace a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Instead, we use testing results alongside clinical interviews, medical history, and ongoing care to better understand how the brain and nervous system may be contributing to mental health symptoms.
When Psychiatric Testing May Be Recommended
Psychiatric testing may be recommended after an evaluation or during the course of care when:
- Symptoms overlap across multiple conditions
- Diagnosis remains unclear despite prior treatment
- A clear baseline is needed to track changes or improvements over time
- Objective data may help guide medication selection or adjustments
- Attention, cognitive, or neurological factors are suspected
- Additional documentation is needed to support clinical decisions
Testing is always individualized and based on clinical judgment.
What to Expect from Psychiatric Testing
Testing experiences vary depending on the type of assessment recommended. Most psychiatric tests are non-invasive and conducted in a structured, supportive environment.
Depending on the service, testing may involve computer-based tasks, brain activity measurement, or genetic sampling. Results are reviewed by our clinical team and discussed with you during a follow up visit so findings can be placed in context and used meaningfully in your care recommendations.
Types of Psychiatric Testing We Offer
Our practice offers several diagnostic tools that may be used to support psychiatric care. Availability may vary based on age, clinical need, and provider recommendation.
EEG Testing
Electroencephalogram (EEG) testing measures patterns of brain activity. In psychiatric care, EEG data may help identify atypical brain activity patterns that can inform diagnosis or treatment planning.
TOVA Testing
The Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) is a computerized assessment used to evaluate attention and impulse control. It is commonly used as part of ADHD evaluations.
Pharmacogenomic Testing
Pharmacogenomic testing analyzes how genetic factors may influence medication response. This information can help guide medication selection and dosing decisions.
MeRT Related Evaluations
MeRT involves EEG guided assessment as part of advanced neuromodulation treatment planning. Evaluations help determine whether MeRT may be appropriate and support individualized treatment mapping.
How Test Results Are Used
We use testing results to support clinical decision making, not as standalone diagnoses. Results are interpreted in the context of your psychiatric evaluation, treatment history, and current symptoms.
Testing may help refine diagnoses, inform medication strategies, guide referrals, or track treatment response over time.
Relationship to Psychiatric Evaluations
